I was just a young girl and I was at that age where I kind of understood the adult world, but not fully. My dad had been out of work and my mom had to take care of four kids, so she had her hands full at home. I opened my gift and it was a doll with no clothes on and her hair was very sparse.
I said out loud, "What happened to my doll?" And my mom went in the bedroom and cried. I hated myself for what I said without thinking and I hated Christmas because I felt it put a strain on people just for the sake of tradition.
I wished we just thanked God for his gift of his son, and had a nice meal or something and didn't have to give presents to everyone all on the same day, but just throughout the year when you have money and when you find the just right gift and they could really be surprised because they are not expecting nothing.
